Maybe Phoenyx is talking about the guys who 'talk the talk' but balk at the
walk.

Here are a few snips from your F.E. Systems Bernie support web page at ...

1.2 Obtaining a ROM Dump

Since Bernie is a software-only emulator, it requires a copy of the Apple IIgs ROM.
We are not allowed to include this code due to the copyrights that prevent us from
doing so.
<<

Translation: "Our stuff needs Apple, Inc.'s IIgs ROM code; but, we're too chicken to
offer it here."

>>
Consequently, you have to create an image of a Apple IIgs ROM yourself.
<<

Translation: "It's up to YOU to infringe on Apple, Inc's IIgs ROM copyright."

>>
Bernie can handle both ROM 1 and ROM 3. You can install either of them, or both at
the same time. The ROM dump(s) must be located in the same folder as the Bernie
application.

The ROM dumps must be titled "APPLE2GS.ROM" for ROM 01 or "APPLE2GS.ROM2" for ROM 3.
<<

need to grom."

>>
To legally download and use the ROM image, you must own a Apple IIgs computer.
<<

Say what?! Since when does owning a computer give you the right to rip out
proprietary ROM code and move it for use on a completely different machine?

Granted, copyright infringement is not, technically, "illegal" in the sense of a
criminal act. It is, nevertheless, copyright infringement-- something _you_ and
others have frequently condemned when practiced by archives hosting old,
out-of-print, commercial software and users who download the software.

>>
If, for some reason, you are unable to make a ROM dump yourself, you can obtain
copies from the web: http://www.emulation.net/apple2
<<

Translation: "Just in case you have never seen a IIgs and have no way to rip out the
copyrighted ROM code, here's the URL of a low-morality 'pirate site' with the goodies
you must download in order to use our software."

Of course, there's lots more of this sort of thing throughout Bernie
documentation. For example, we can go to ...

http://www.magnet.ch/emutech/Bernie/Documentation/Storage/storage.html .

Here we discover some recommendations about using various disk image formats:

>>
"DiskCopy" : Disk Copy is a popular disk copier from Apple Computer. You can turn
"real" 3.5" disks into disk images using Disk Copy and directly use the resulting
disk image with Bernie. Bernie supports DiskCopy 4.2 and DiskCopy 6 images, except
for DiskCopy 6 compressed images. They will not work.

"Universal Disk Image" (2IMG): There's a new disk image format that will work with
most regularly updated emulators across all platforms. Bernie can create, read and
write such images. These images can also contain emulator-specific enhancements and
user comments, though these features are not yet supported by Bernie. For
compatibility reason, we recommend you to use this type.
<<

LOL! "Compatibility"? ... with what??? These guys are all supposed to own IIgs's,
right? They own the games they are converting, right? Though they do not mind
possibly cutting out sellers of Mac versions of the software they convert, they
would, of course, _never_ trade copies with anyone, right?

Or; could "compatibility" refer to all of those wicked Apple II archive sites which
maintain old IIgs games in .2MG XGS IIgs disk image format?
