Pretty easy.  Take a look at the camera batteries at the photo
counter of your favorite store.  Fine one that is 3.6v Lithium.
The shape is a bit different, but that's ok.

Open the IIGS.  Take out the power supply.  The battery is
underneath.

Clip the leads close to the old battery, remembering which
end is positive and which is negative.

Remove the old battery.  Move the leads with your fingers until
the new battery fits.  Make sure positive and negative match.

Now the tricky part:  with your soldering iron in one had and
your coil of solder in the other, QUICKLY apply heat to the
battery/terminal connections and solder.  Once the solder
melts (fraction of a second), remove the solder and the soldering
iron.

You have to be quick because if you leave the heat on the
battery for more than a few second, it might burst.

Good luck!  The new battery costs about $8 to $9 but lasts
a decade or more!

Camera batteries have more electrolyte too and lasts longer
than the regular IIGS/Mac lithium battery (but costs the
same or less).
