Success!!!! One CAN NOT format the drives on the IIgs in my
experience. They are just too large. Can be
formatted and partitioned on a Mac with SCSI using 2 different
programs, then back to the GS fro additional tweeking.... Spent all
day on it yesterday and finally found a solution! Using the Jaz now!
I anyone needs disks formatted and partitioned, just mail them to me
with # and size of partitions and HFS or ProDos and I'll work on them
and return ready to go. Will run about $5 per cartridge plus
postage - fair enough? (takes 30 minutes per 1GB cartridge)

That's terrific news. I can't wait to try it myself. Two questions:
1) What size HFS partitions did you make? Will the IIGS recognize Jaz partitions above 100 MB?
2) What SCSI card are you using; RamFast or Apple?

Rich

Well I was able to find some time today to try the Jaz on my IIGS.

I don't know why it wouldn't work before (cabling or termination, probably) but it SURE WORKS NOW!

I had a full SCSI chain on the RamFast with five hard drives plus the Jaz and the RamFast handled them all. I used a Jaz disk that was Mac formatted and it showed up on the first try. ADU recognized the disk but wouldn't re-format it or anything.

The RamFast would format it into 32 meg partitions, but got tired or something after doing eight of them. (just kidding; I know it won't do more than eight).

Next test is to try the disk back on the Mac and see what it looks like there.

I don't think I'll plan on actually using the Jaz drive, but it was fun and educational to try it out.

Thanks to the group!
