Just happened to come across this thread and thought
I'd chime in. For the past several months I've successfully
used a 1 GB Jaz Drive on my Apple IIGS. Not merely as a
data storage drive, but as my main boot device. I'm using it
with a 1 MB RamFAST 'D', with 3.01e firmware.
I've partitioned and format it using the built-in RamFAST
utility: Nine 32 MB ProDOS partitions and the remainder
as one 733 MB HFS partition. It seems to work fine and
operates as fast as any SCSI hardisk. Occasionally I've
had the screen black out and require a cold boot, but
I'd attribute that more with my ZipGS than the Jaz drive.
Incidentally, the reason I switched to the Jaz drive
had to do with the fact most of my SCSI hardisks are
ear piercingly loud (I'm used to modern hardisks that
are completely silent). The Jaz certainly isn't completely
silent, but at a tolerable level. Now if only I could find
a replacement cable to repair my Pegasus internal
drive, then I probably wouldn't hear it at all. :)
(anyone have a dual D-25 to IDC-50 cable?)
