Then your e-mail program is encoding and decoding the file for
automatically.  This is normal for modern e-mail applications.
Whenever you attach a file, it is being encoded into 7 bit ASCII using
some method be it BINscii, UUencode, BinHex, MIME or something else.
When you detach it, it is being decoded.
