My God, this is the 3rd time in two days that a question about the headphone
port popped up.

That port will output to the VCR fine.

The headphone port outputs identical levels as PC sound cards and your
walkman stereo. Just buy a patch cable with a miniature stereo plug on
one end (for the IIGS port) and RCA outputs at the other end. That'll
connect the IIGS and the VCR.

For normal listening, plug a pair of PC amplified speakers into the port.
This automatically cuts off the internal speaker and suddenly, bass
seems more satisfying and treble sounds clearer.

Without additional hardware, plugging a pair of amplified speakers
into the headphone port is the single most substantial sound improvement
you can do for the IIGS.

Listening to the IIGS' 32-channel Ensoniq wavetable chip through the
built in speaker is like trying to listen to your PC sound card through
the built in PC speaker. No PC user does that. No IIGS user should
either.
