For years I had been under the impression that the GS and the Mac needed
different cables to hardware handshake properly with all the bells and
whistles. I even got cable custom made for my IIgs only to discover that
my Mac cable had identical, IDENTICAL pinouts. I painstakingly tested
them with a continuity tester because I didn't believe it. I can and have
used either cable on either machine with no problems and everything
reported. There is a second cable configuration which can be used on the
IIgs (with a different driver), I have one of those too, made myself.
(See the ANSITerm manual for both pinouts.) It will not work on the Mac.
Perhaps this is the source of the confusion.

Ditto on the modem, ditto on the "full advantage" except my IIgs runs
slightly faster, 9 MHz.
