Hi,
A few months ago I tried to use my old //c and it turned out it has
difficulties to read the 5"1/4 floppy disks I've kept. I used the //c from
1983 to 1989 when I was a kid and I decided to transfer those disks as
images I could use with emulators, for archive purpose. A friend has lent me
a IIgs to do it but I've never used one before and I'm not familiar with
Apple II's anymore (at least, I'm not aware of the newer OS and apps
versions).
So here's what I have :
- Apple //c 128k with internal 5"1/4 and external 5"1/4 (bought at the same
time)
- Apple IIgs ROM 01. There's a memory card inside but I don't know the
amount of memory it has. I have been lent a 3"1/2 floppy with. No hard
drive.
- PowerMac G3 under MacOS 8.5 - I can reinstall a 7.5 system if there's any
need to read ProDOS disks under Finder (I don't know if ther's tools that
can make an image of ProDOS disks without the built-in system support).
All the disks I want to transfer are ProDOS bootable (1.0.2 or 1.1.1) made
with Apple's //c tool disk.
I have a lot of DD 3"1/2 disks so I guess there will be no problem with them
(I own an Atari ST too ^^).
First I must get a system disk for the IIgs. My friend don't have one, I
guess he was given this computer. If I connect the 5"1/2 drive instead of
the 3"1/4 I can boot under my //c ProDOS disk but the ADB keyboard is not
recognized and in any case I can't connect the IIgs drive after the //c one.
If I connect them in the reverse order the IIgs tries to boot on the 3"1/2
drive.
Could someone indicate me what I need to make a system disk for the IIgs and
how to make images of my old disks ?
Another couple of questions :
- How to reset the IIgs ?
- Two years ago I made a ProDOS disk on my Mac just for fun, checking if it
worked like any other floppy disk. Then I made a directory, and I thought
that I've never done that when I used the //c. So I checked Apple's tool
disk and I found it can make directories on ProDOS disks... but how to
access them ?
Thanks for any reply.
Cyril.
