Huh? The DOS cards from Apple and the like cost less than equivalent PC boxes.
That's necessarily or they would never have sold. The premise for making
such a card is to save buying another monitor and set of peripherals. If
you're gonna spend as much for a card as another box, it's pointless.

Also Apple's logic board swaps from days gone by cost less than a new box
of the same type (e.g. $500 for a //e to IIgs upgrade as opposed to $1000
or $1150 for a new IIgs) but not cheap enough to make it worth while to
upgrade instead of doing a sell 'n buy.
