Aye, that's exactly what I don't want to have to do.  My custom-made hard
drive enclosure is mounted inside my IIe (where the power supply used to
be), and to get at the drive mechanisms I have to take the whole computer
apart.  That's why I mounted the DIP switches on the outside of the
enclosure, which allows me to change the IDs of the drives easily.  I'll
solder the wires to the pins before I use jumpers!
