Just a pet theory of mine. I know that New Zealand got a (relatively)
large stock of "Woz" machines, which took quite a while to sell. They
arrived in September 1986, and still hadn't sold out when I bought my
machine in June (or was it July?) 1987. I got an original "MouseDesk
2.0" system disk with mine, rather than System 1.1 (or possibly even
2.0) which was current at the time.
There was an unusually high proportion of Woz machines around my user
group for the first year or two, but it levelled off after that.
