Loading The Apple ][

I never had an Apple ][ as a kid, but I used my cousins to play such
games as Wizadry.
  Now I have a Psion Series 5 I found an emulator and want ot play
wizadry.  But it comes on two disks, and even on the windows emulator, I
can load the first disk by simply 'turning on' the Apple, it gives the
Start up screen, followed by copyright data and then just halts.
  What am I doing wrong?
  How do you load the Apple ][  ?
