     Most likely, the problem is that the boot disk needs to be
write-protected. If it is not, the game bombs.

     At least on some emulators (including AppleWin), you can simulate write
protection by right-clicking on the .dsk file, selecting "Properties", and
checking "Read-only" under "Attributes".

     Probably, it would be a good idea to download a fresh copy of the boot
disk .dsk file.
