I was hoping to make a "poor man's EDD" from the Disk II card.

It can be done, but requires a bit of extra hardware. It's hard to
squeeze _any_ extra functionality out of Woz's existing design, which
should be expected and admired of course. ;-)

Basically the sequencer program needs to be twice as large, and one
more flip flop is needed to account for another "address line" into
the ROM. Then it should be possible to read 7 bits of data at a time,
including sync bits.

A Kryoflux type solution is going to be more expensive but obviously
much more powerful. Looks interesting.
