ARGHS! Vulcan 20
Is this expected behavior for an ancient Vulcan-GS drive, equipped with a
Vulcan-IIe card and running in an enhanced ][e...
I have a large database that I maintain (75k...the Roller Coaster Almanac)
which consists of a random access text file with random record lengths,
and an index file pointing to some of the entries in the main file.
Well, today I went to run a report on this file and found out that the
index file had been trashed. The index file is 366 10-byte records.
Spurious characters have appeared in this file. The odd part? ONLY the
data bytes were affected, and only a few of the records were damaged.
"2941" became "2046"; "2841" became "24<1"; crap like that.
Did I just get lucky, or is my drive dying? Anyone else have this kind of
trouble? I've never known bad blocks to be so selective...!
