Re: More ???

 Robert chanted almost zenlike:

RS<| 1. It was recommended to upgrade the IIgs to 4 megs. Okay, is
    | that ROM or RAM? or what?

RAM. Read Only Memory isn't usually 'upgradeable off the shelf'. :)

    | 2. Why is there such a difference in the kinds of memory, price
    | wise? Is it because of one being for RAM and the other ROM?

You lost me on that one. Difference in price between types of RAM
memory (SIMM, DRAM, SDRAM, SVRAM, etc) is in the types of memory. :)

    | 3. Is the 'FocusDrive' for $59 from Alltech the cheapest way to
    | get a hard drive for the IIgs? It doesn't have to be large

Yes. Comes with all the goodies already on it, no controller needed
cuz it plugs into an internal slot.

    | 4. I hear talk about needing a controller card for a hard drive,
    | are they expensive and what kind to I need?

If you go with a Focus, none needed. If you don't, then you will get
one of the various SCSI controllers available, which will run you $40
to $80 approximately. But you can put on any SCSI drives and devices
you locate and all will be well.

    | 5. What's this I've read about a Super Serial Card?

Dunno. It's a serial card for the //e; GS's have a serial port stock.

    | 6. What if I wanted to use my ZIP (SCSI) drive on it?

You can.

    | 7. It may be overkill but I have a Global Village 33.6. Can I use
    | that? Does it need another cable? (other than the one it came

Not overkill. :) Yes, you can. If the modem is made for the Mac (8-
pin miniDIN connector), you are set -- if it's the standard external
(DB25 jack) you need a Mac high-speed modem cable, around $10.

    | wants more, upgrade. So my choices now can't be expensive or a
    | dead-end choice.

Depends upon what she wants to do with the system, whether it is a
dead-end or not. Just word processing and BBSing, you're fine --
cruising the Internet with the greatest of ease, get an iMac. :)
