I may be mistaken, but isn't the NSC just a Dallas Smartsocket?  There are a
number listed in the JDR catalog for about $10.  A battery isn't that much
less.

And I am pretty sure that the battery is part of the chip.

If you already have the software, this should be the solution, I think.
