I was told on the phone (over a year ago) by a person at WDC that there
shouldn't be any trouble running their current 65816s at 20Mhz. Of course,
you can't take that as an official guarantee, but most people interested
in accelerating their GSes these days have some knowledge about the issues
involved and are willing to troubleshoot - we're not talking about a mass
market product.
