You don't need a converter cable. Apple's original Mac models (128K and
512K) used the same DE-9 female connector for the serial port.
You can get genuine LocalTalk (AppleTalk) drop boxes with either
Mini-Din-8 or DE-9 connectors. At least, you used to be able to get
both types. I doubt they are made any more.
I've never heard of a third party one with this connector, so this may
be an option only if you stick with genuine Apple cabling.
