Re: IIGS Game Music

Mkent01@viking.cris.com wrote this comment - asking the following question -
noted in quotes, to which I reply:

" SonoBox is much more stable. As for BeatBox, I have never heard
of it, and I've visited most of the ftp sites. Where can I pick up a copy
of it?"

Having helped the author of SonoBox NDA MODfile player, with the design and
suggestions for it's creation - I have to agree with you on it's being my FAV
- MODfile player also. It allows for a pref. file to be saved with a list of
music to play with the next launch, has all the supportive code for Shellplay
built into it - with some major optimization and improvement of the Shellplay
codes, plays all the original Shellplay special MODfile effects plus has two
more tht were added to it - thus, having more spec. effects over the actual
Shellplay and being an NDA designed with the ability to play music in the
background during the use of other apps, it's the only MODfile player I ever
use.

BeatBox is the ultimate mulrti-MODfile and Med format player, with some limited
edit and save abilities, it's a complete application for GS/OS and has many
other unique features included.
As an alpha release it does have some major bugs and stability problems with
some features and formats but, it's a FANTASTIC program. Had the authoirs of
BeatBox continued with development and updates - it could have been the KILLER
MUSIC APP' for the Apple IIgs
computer.

You can download the BeatBoX program archive and read/download the full
instructions, docs, etc. of it from the following ftp url and folder:

ftp://apple.cabi.net/pub/applegs/Music.and.Sound

Perhaps someday the authors will be good enough to release the BeatBox src.
codes and place the program into public domain - to allow others to work on
it's upgrades, improvements, etc.

I have the src. codes to SonoBox and also have the src. codes for
Shellplay.(both in in Merlin assembly).

I'm going to contact the author - Tony Morales and ask him if I can make those
src. codes available and release the program into public domain - for others to
explore it and improve it and/or create their own programs based on it.

Hope the above info and comments prove useful to you.

Cheers,
Tom
