Going to one of the sites with TCHANGE.BIN, I downloaded the file,
transferred it to the GS, started BASIC, and followed the directions.
Everything worked fine. The process works fine on another II (a II+)
under an early ProDOS, too.
It may be that, one way or another, the file is not arriving on
your Apple II as a Text file. For example, it may be a BIN file-- which
would be kind of funny, since the whole idea of the BLOAD, etc. is to
end up with a BIN file you can BRUN.
Try this: under BASIC, do a CAT of the disk on which the downloaded
file is located. In the "TYPE" column of the Catalog, what kind of file
is the downloaded TCHANGE.BIN? If it is a "BIN" file, try BRUN
TCHANGE.BIN. If it is some other kind of file, what kind is it?
Be sure to post what you discover.

On what machine are you downloading files? How do you transfer
files to your Apple II?
Downloading, transferring, etc. takes a little practice. Once
things are going smoothly, the whole thing suddenly looks easy.
