Like the memory expansion //c, the //c+ has the slot 4 RAMdisk software in
place even when the RAM card is not installed. You can make a call to the
ProDOS block driver or the Smartport driver and ask it how much RAM it has.

Unfortunately the //c rev 3 firmware has a bug. As noted below this is fixed
in rev 4 and the //c+ (see Apple //c Tech note #7).

o    Firmware returns correct information when the Memory Expansion Card is 
     not present
