That's probably why you got it for next to nothing.  Anything slower
than 14.4K aren't supported by most ISP and online services.

I'd be interested in finding a way to make regular modem compatiable
with TTY.  But that might be difficult since TTY runs at around 100
baud.  That's right, 100 BPS, not a 1200, or a 600, or even the dinosaur
300.  Last I checked, a modem specifically designed for TTY runs at
about $300 and cannot be used like regular modem.  

That means having to find a way to cram a printer, a 56K modem and a TTY
modem on a Mac that has only 2 serial ports.  Serial switch doesn't work
if all 3 devices are needed at the same time, and a good serial port
expansion are overpriced as well.  Especially finding a *working* Nubus
serial expansion board.
