Re: Apple IIe?

Nathan raised the cup and toasted:

"O<| How do you tell which kind of Apple IIe you have...
"O<| Also, how can you tell how much RAM it has, whether or not it
    | should boot when you turn it on...etc...etc...etc...

The field tests go like this...

PLATINUM: The color of the case :) ... it's enhanced, has numberpad.

UNENHANCED: CPU chip says 6502. Lift the lid, middle of the board.

ENHANCED: CPU chip says 65C02 (and there may be an "Enhanced"
              sticker on the keyboard light)

RAM is determined by what card is in the auxilary slot:

  None: 48k
 Large: 64k
 Small: 128k
Long: Have a look at the number of memory chips; (chips / 8) = 256k
A fully populated RamWorks board holds 1 meg; daughterboards
on the front or back increase the size by half a meg or more.

If there's a drive card in the computer and a drive attached, yes, it
should automatically boot when powered up. All Apples do that. If a
drive is attached and it doesn't spin on powerup, there is a problem.
If there are no drives on the machine, the //e will present a Basic
prompt. //e's don't have the //c and GS "bouncing apple" Check Boot
Disk screen and will keep spinning the drive ad infinitum if there's
no disk inserted or the disk isn't recognised.
