The easiest way to get software AND Macintosh connectivity
for the Apple IIGS is to go to http://www.allelec.com/ Alltech
Electronics and purchase a Focus hard drive.

The Focus drive has System 6.0.1 preinstalled.  With System
6.0.1's HFS FST, you can read and write Macintosh 800k
double density disks from IIGS Finder.

Alltech also sells the Sirius RAM card, which takes up to 8MB
of memory using 1MB SIMMs.  4MB is the amount considered
standard for using software like AppleWorks GS and many
other of the better IIGS software.  2MB is the real bare
bones minimum for doing ANYTHING useful.

With System 6.0.1, you can also set up a LocalTalk network
between IIGS and Macintosh and access the Mac's files
from IIGS Finder.

The Focus drive also includes many share and free ware
specifically for the IIGS.

Check out the http://ground.ecn.uiowa.edu/ site for some
great IIGS wares, such as the music I've uploaded (Like
A Prayer, Bohemian Rhapsody, We've Only Just Begun,
Even Now, various National Anthems, etc.) ... such software
which takes advantage of IIGS abilities like 32 voice music
synthesis can't be found on asimov.  Check out ground.
You won't regret it.  Because "Apple II" is just HALF of
the Apple IIGS's name, and the lesser half at that.  Asimov
has "Apple II" but not "GS".  ;-)

While you are at it, when running REAL GS specific
software, plug in some speakers or phones into the
miniature port at the back.  The built in one is not very
good.
