If you use AppleWorks 4 or 5 as your word processor or for other jobs, no
external printer diver is needed. HP DeskJet support is built in to AppleWorks
4&5 (although minor changes are needed for DeskJets 540 and higher). We also
have DeskJet drivers available for AppleWorks 3 which are virtually identical
to the AppleWorks 5 drivers, including the beautiful CG Times font at P1
(proportional-1). No homemade custom printers here, this is the real thing.

So you only need an external driver if you are using GS-only programs or
programs which do not support the deskJet directly.
