Re: Surfing the IIe way?

Yessir.
What you need is a modem (duh) and Super Serial Card, and you can go
19,200 tops (there's also a Turbo ASB attachment to go faster!). Plus
a good terminal program like ProTerm 3.1 (there are free so-so ones out
there as well which will do the job if you only want to browse). And
then you need an Internet provider that has a text interface instead of
everything being PPP or SLIP. [Before anyone mentions Marinetti, the
GS's PPP/SLIP toolset, Peter said he's got a two-ee.] Said provider
should have a web browser name of Lynx, which is also text-based.
My //e indeed goes webbing at 14.4 and I have a great ol' time. Lynx
will let you download graphics (there are tricks to get them sent),
though on a //e you won't be able to view JPGs, only GIFs. Also, some
folks have software archives so you can pick up goodies off the Web,
and yes, there is a constant flow of new Apple developments (though not
as many which will run on a //e, since most new stuff is for the GS).
Lynx will let you FTP so your possibilities are not totally limited.
And if all else fails, your local library may have a dialup for free
public access to the Web. This is the back-door I use when my server
isn't answering the phone -- either I browse the Web on the library's
capacities or I use it to Telnet to my server. :)
