OK, brace yourself, this is a longshot ....
Way back in the 80s, I had an apple IIc. Sadly, I let it and my collection
of apple2 stuff get away from me several years ago. Recently, no doubt
inspired by nostalgic memories of my youth, I have been trying to track down
some of the stuff I used to have. As those of you who were into computers
back in the eighties will recall, many computer books and magazines printed
programs which you could key in yourself and run. Well, I have for several
months now been thinking about this one game in particular that I used to
play, and was hoping that someone might remember it and perhaps guide me to
where I could get a copy of it or the book it came in.
The game, as best I recall, was called "Politician." It was a
Hammurabi-style game in which you were responsible for managing a small
town's budget -- most of the decisions were whether to spend money for
certain items, such as improving the library. Your rival, as I recall, was
the town dogcatcher -- if you screwed up badly enough you would wind up with
his job. A very succesful tour, and I think you could go to the Bahamas.
I believe the program was one of several in a book, whose title completly
escapes me. My feeling is that it was a book of generic basic programs (i.e.
type in and run on apple2/c64/tsr80 with small modifications), but i'm not
sure about this at all. I'm almost positive that it was a book and not from
a magazine, but it has been a long time. That's about all I can remember.
If anyone out there could point me to an archive with a copy of the program,
tell me what the book that contained the listing was, or give me any other
information I would be most appreciative. (Heck, if you can just tell me
that you vaguely remember the same thing that would at least tell me I'm not
just making this all up). If someone out there has a copy of the book with
the program listing in it, and would be willing to part with it for a few
(and I do mean a few) dollars, that would be great as well.
Feel free to email, and
Thanks!
