I do not remember a book such as the one you describe; but, it was
not much trouble to try a power search on www.Amazon.com ...
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/subst/search/power.html/002-9483406-4186051
The power search descriptors used were "title word is BASIC and
subject word is computers and published before 1985". This produced 115
titles. Of these, my best guess is ...
Basic Programming for Kids : Basic Programming on Personal Computers by
Apple, Atari, Commodore, Radio Shack, Texas Instruments, Timex Sinclair
If the above title does not 'ring a bell', you can try the search
yourself and peruse the titles.
Another possibility is that the "book" was really an issue of
SoftSide magazine. Softside often published several games in each issue
for a variety of computers.
Good luck!
