Modem problem

Hi:
Would love to use a faxmodem with my //GS (as a simple modem,
no faxing). Is this possible?
I have no problem with a simple modem, but cant get the faxmodem
ZOOM V.32bis to work with Proterm3.1.
I tried all kind of choices from the install menu of PT3.1.
Is there a certain string required?
