in slot 4, and I did set the slot to "your card" in the control panel.

It's an internal type (card) with 2 RCA connectors connected to a stereo
system.

I tried skyfox and pitfall II, both worked on the //e. I guess there was
no point in making a GS version of the mockingboard because of its superior
built-in sounds, I just wanted to play the old (pre GS) games that did use
the mockingboard
