The Apple IIGS can go up to 56kbps, but the IIc is limited to about
9600 (technically, its serial chip does 19200, but a design flaw
causes problems above 9600).

ISP...you need one that offers a dialup UNIX shell account.  I think
crl.com and visi.com, among others, offer these.

Modem...a 14400 modem works best with the IIc.  Most of the
9600 ones are not really 9600, but are 2400 ones with compression
which the IIc does not like very much for some reason.

Software...you need a VT100 terminal program plus Zmodem
for your files.  This calls for http://www.intrec.com/ Intrec's
Proterm 3.1.
