The video ROM, which is used in the IIe and IIc. It contains the
patterns used to generate all the text, lo-res and hi-res graphics,
though the hi-res patterns are a 1:1 mapping.

By comparison, the ][ and ][+ have a simple character generator ROM that
contains the text character images only.

To answer the original question: if you change the hi-res graphics
patterns, the most interesting effects you could achieve would be to
cause all graphics to be inverted (black vs white), or to mirror image
within each group of 7 pixels.
