i know what you mean, and i would agree for the most part, but what i
was thinking (and should have said) was in the line of children....  i
don't know about you, but i'm not going to let my son monkey with a
$2000 system until i know he can do so without destroying everything.
in the mean time, i am thinking about letting him "play with" an old
system, maybe one of the XTs that i have laying about, and when he's
old enough to know (roughly) what he's doing, i'll have some
educational programs for my //gs that he can use.  when THAT is "too
small for him", then i'll move him up....

see what i mean?  for many of us, we think "huh?  why bother, when we
can get educational stuff for the PC i have NOW?", and that's a valid
point.  however, there are those that DON'T have a computer, and they
might be thinking about getting one for their children to learn on....
