All of Apple's formatters have an update driver option which will do what it
says provided an APPLE_DRIVER partition is present and is the right size.
That option doesn't affect data on the disk.

BTW: quoting 60 or so lines and adding a whole two lines to it and finishing
up with your seven line .sig is piss poor posting etiquette.
