I was getting some odd results on my Microdrive at first, too. Turns
out, when I was pulling out the CF, I was also wiggling the portion of
the CF adapter that connects to the IDE port on the card itself. Might
try ensuring a snug fit between the CF and the IDE port, and the IDE
port in the card slot.
