computer parallel processing to the masses ]
Chris - You keep telling me to "read this and weep"...why is that? I'm
happy to "read this and celebrate"...why you think I don't like Linux,
I'll never know.
Now what you listed is all very well and good...congradulations Linux
developers. But this does nothing to help the *average user* who is the
focus of this discussion. What these people need are basic productivity
applications, not massive parallel computing. We've been asking for days
now for the names of some equivalent Linux software which is available on
either the PC or Macintosh platforms. And we have yet to be offered any
names...which only backs up our point that Linux is not ready for the
average user (who you will need to persuade if Linux is to become a viable
alternative to Windows).
If you, and other Linux supporters, continue down this avenue of "we don't
need no stinking Office", then I will gaurauntee that Linux will *never*
overtake Windows. I'm sorry, but programs like this are what is important
to mainstream computer users (who you will need to allie with if you want
Linux to overtake Windows). I didn't make this rule...it's a fact of the
industry. If you want a server OS, I'd be happy to suggest Linux...I use
unix (Solaris) for *my* businesses servers...I *love* unix, and I'm sure
that I would love Linux. If you want a developer OS...Linux would work
great here too. If you want a this or that OS, Linux may work well
(depending on what this and that are). If you want an average user OS,
sorry, Linux ain't there yet. I wish it were, but it's not as I'd really
like to see Linux go far.
