And for the Attorneys General who are 'fighting' Microsoft, they are travelling 
in much nicer company than they would if they were doing something like going 
after drug offenders, tobacco companies, abortion clinic bombers, divorced 
parents who don't pay child support, drunk drivers, banks who launder drug 
money, etc.  Also, Microsoft is a 'safe' target as there won't be many people 
in their states who have any political power or criminal power to challenge the 
states' suits by legal other than legal means.  Whip up the populace with tales 
of how you went crusading against the evil empire and you can get your 
names/faces in the paper; good, free coverage without having to work very hard. 
 Imagine if all this effort was being put into revising encryption standards or 
somehow enforcing a legal standard for defective software!  Imagine if instead 
of bashing Microsoft these legal beagles were defining how consumers could get 
compensation for all the bad or inadequate software that is out there.

They won't do it because that would require effort on their part and not 
just 'sound and noise signifying nothing' grandstanding.
