Quark

I resently bought an a2 e that had a little  device that pluged in between
the keyboard pins on the motherboard and the cable from the keyboard and
also had a connector that went over to the 16 pin internal game I/O.
between the two was a small chip and a 16 pin socket that has "socket" and
a curved arrow pointing toward the back of the computer printed in silver
under it.  across the end towards the keyboard on the top is the word
"Quark" and on the undersied is printed "ALF". Does anybody have any itea
what this is a nd what it could be used for? Any info will be greatly
appreciated.
