There was originally software that set which slots operated at ZipChip
speeds and which remained at 1Mhz.  The default, I think, was to have
slots 7, 1, 2, and 4 accelerated and the rest 1Mhz to let floppy disk
drives run properly.  If you wanted to put your Disk II card in slot 7,
you had to configure the ZipChip.  There was also testing software,
yes...this software ran non-stop until you cancelled it and served to
check the stability of the ZipChip.

Where to still get the software, I don't know...
