I just wanted to update csa2 readers on my reclassification efforts.
I tried to track down Timeworks, the publisher of Publish It...sadly,
it went out of business in 1994. Timeworks hired other companies
to write their software. The Wintel version of Publish It was written
by GST software of the UK and it has reverted to them. Similarly,
the Apple II version has reverted to the company that wrote it, one
called Turning Point Software...at least that's my theory. I am
contacting both GST and Turning Point Software to see which one
really has the rights to the Apple II version...and try to convince
the owners to release the program as copyrighted freeware...
The GEOS effort has turned out to be simpler. Apple II GEOS is
owned by GeoWorks, the company that used to be Berkeley
Softworks. They no longer sell and support the Apple II version,
but they know about it. The Commodore version was sold to
CMD. I am in the process of writing them to ask for reclassification
of the Apple II version as copyrighted freeware...
It would help if active Apple II users joined in the effort and email
GeoWorks to show that there is still interest. The GeoWorks
web site is http://www.geoworks.com/ and contact info is on the
site...
