I know that forgetting is not easy, but we can ignore the ones we think
are software pirates. But it's not our job to try to prevent others from
illegaly copying software. It happens, and we all know that.
That I have 'feelings' for an author and that I want to pay for software
is quite unique. My roommates don't pay for their software. They have
Wintel computers.
Their opinions are:
* that they cannot afford it because they're students
* why pay if you can get it for free
* why pay at all
I've discussed this subject with many students, but I seem to be the
only one I've ever talked to (among students) who buys software! How am
I ever going to change it. They call me silly and stupid. It makes no
sense at all to them.
But of course we can *try* to prevent software piracy, but this always
leads to fights in this newsgroup. There seem to be 2 sides (you &
others vs dr Tom & Rubywand). Usually I don't enter these fights, and
skip them. However, it is quite hostile to newbies (like a few folks on
my former BBS) and doesn't invite newbies to come back.
