Well, I shouldn't flame people as much as you do (at least no without
knowing for sure what you talk about).
This is what I have heard (I can't judge the truth of it, but it seems fully
reasonable to me):
While it never was any official Apple plan to do so, it was in fact a
consideration and option they had in mind at Apple while they designed
Newton OS.
They thought that MacOS technically lagged behind the rest of the market,
and that it would be a good backup plan to use Newton OS also for bigger
computers if the handheld Newton devices did well.
This was supposed to be part of the reason why they wanted to make the
software for NOS less processor dependable (to be easier ported to other non
handheld processors like 68k and PPC).
