The C64 was better than the Apple II in several respects. Chief among these
was the trusty ol'Vic chip that gave you hardware sprites. Having a real
music synthesizer was pretty cool, too. The C64 also had some extra hardware
ins/outs and timers that weren't on the Apple. Graphics programing is
definitely easier on the C64 then it is on the Apple II. Both systems were
somewhat troubled by system roms that never really got fixed because too
many people made the bugs a standard that neither company could really fix
without breaking existing apps.
