Since I dont know if you have an enhanced IIe or not there are some things you
can try. If all the error mesage you got was RAM without any number after it
chances are pretty good that the error is in the motherboard memory. Machines
that are not enhanced do not check the RAM on the AUX slot card. Enhanced
machines check both motherboard RAM and Auxiallry RAM. If you have this setup
with a non-Apple brand extended 80 column card it is posible to recieve an
error message even when no error is present. The way to make sure is to remove
the 80 column card and rerun the test. If the RAM message still appears then
the problem is almost alway going to be one of the eight ram chips. If they are
not soldered on you might be able to swap them one at a time with chips from an
extended 80 column card until you find the one that is bad. If you need chips,
they are being disposed of by the hundereds on old PC motherboards.
