For the record, I too use AWGS on a ROM 3 and I do push it to its
limits, routinely writing 10-20 page documents, drawing graphics
of charts, and pasting things together with the page layout program.
It crashes no more, maybe even less, than a typical program on my
Windows machine.  I am using AWGS 1.1.
