Bizarre problems introduced by Apple II 3.5" Drive controller

After installing my Apple II 3.5" Drive controller I have problems with
creating "disk images" with Copy II+ 6.5. In the past I have found this
a VERY speedy and convenient means to backup unprotected 6&2 encoded
5.25" disks onto my hard drive.

Now, when performing the same operation, Copy II+ 6.5 complains about
the 5.25" disk not being a ProDOS or DOS 3.3 formatted disk for disks
that aren't ProDOS or DOS 3.3. Furthermore, when I attempt the operation
with a ProDOS or DOS 3.3 formatted disk it politely allows me to choose
the source drive and the destination drive, but afterward, instead of
prompting for the filename on the destination ProDOS volume, it reads
the VTOC of the 5.25" volume and allows for the selection of a file
on that volume!?

This is very bizarre, since before the Apple II 3.5 Drive controller,
Copy II+ 6.5 would scan the 5.25" media, would identify as NonDOS,
ProDOS or DOS, and would immediately prompt for a filename on the
destination ProDOS volume.

Any ideas what may be causing this goofy problem? I have only tried
this with ProDOS 8 1.9 and ProDOS 8 2.0.3. (It's on an enhanced //e).

Thanks in advance!
