I use Icon.Ed v2.0 for my icons. Start out by copying the icon you want
to change when inactive, edit the copied icon and put in the red X, go
into the file attributes and change the auxtype to 8000 + whatever the
icon has currently (i.e auxtype 0001 then make the inactive icon 8001)
then save the file back and you are done.
