problem with ROM 01 GS

I bought a used ROM 01 GS and it seems to work ok. The self-test passes 
and such and it will boot fine. The only problem is that when I load a 
program the computer makes a strange high pitched sound, if I use the 
control panel and such it does not happen, only when I am running a 
program and it I click on something the noise stops while it is doing the 
task. Any ideas on what is the problem?
