   Try using a telcomm program on the mac side, and 'p'rinting within
Appleworks to the null modem cable. That'll lose formatting, but
probably one of the faster ways.

   You shouldn't have to open it up for any method. To get a device on
Appletalk requires special (and somewhat rare) serial chips found only
in Macs, GSs, and the workstation card for the //e. The //c does not
have those special chips (nor could you easily drop them in as a
replacement). You'll have to go with the simpler null modem which is
supported by just about everything, and works.
